On Tues., Aug. 17, Wilson County Schools held the 2010 Simon Awards. The award, new this year, stands as the highest recognition the school system has ever bestowed on an employee and recognized exceptional performance in 18 categories. Thirty-two employees and two schools were recognized as Simon Award winners. The awards, which headlined the district's opening convocation, carry the name of Fike High School junior David Simon whose response to a cancer diagnosis last summer was to become an honor student. His courageous battle ended Aug. 9.
